Gothic 2 Claw of Beliar Upgrade Again

Official RPG Codex Discord Server

  1. That sounds proficient to me, as a pure melee/archery brute with but enough mana for full general gyre use. Only well-nigh to head through the portal, in one case Vatras vouches for me. I think I'grand nonetheless in Chapter Three rather than Iv.
Shame I won't run into Greg over at that place, but his mates sound like they'll be a skillful laugh equally well.
  2. What about the Claw of Beliar? Where does that fit in? I must admit that I've never used it; I ever gave it to Vatras so I don't know much well-nigh its damage tables.
  3. If you lot are a paladin or dragon-hunter it becomes a sword that has no stat requirement, whether information technology is one-handed or 2-handed depends on which skill is higher than the other when y'all go to upgrade it at a shrine of beliar.

the shrine takes max-hp (permanently) to upgrade its damage output and chance of its spell effect going off.

I'll re-create and paste the handy table fabricated by N3Burgener from gamefaqs

    Player Claw 1H Crit 2H Crit Deducted Level Level Dmg % Dmg % HP ------------------------------------------------------- <11 ane 90 12 100 12 -5 eleven two 91 14 101 14 -10 13 3 92 16 102 sixteen -15 15 4 93 eighteen 103 18 -twenty 17 five 94 xx 104 xx -25 19 vi 95 22 105 22 -30 21 seven 96 24 106 24 -35 23 8 97 26 107 26 -forty 25 nine 98 28 108 28 -45 27	10 99 30 109 30 -l 29	11	100 32 110 32 -55 31	12	101 34 111 34 -sixty 33	13	102 36 112 36 -65 35	14	103 38 113 38 -lxx 37 fifteen	104 40 114 twoscore -75 39	xvi	105 42 115 42 -lxxx 41	17	106 44 116 44 -85 43 18 107 46 117 46 -90 45 19 108 48 118 48 -95 47 xx 110 50 120 50 -100
One of the awesome things about the hook is that if you are an archer and neglected raising your strength you tin can still use the claw of beliar and tis magical event (which at max level has a l% chance of going off) Ever does 100 impairment guaranteed (it bypasses all armor/resistance), then even enemies similar Black Trolls tin can theoretically go downwards in 5 hits.

The downside is that it won't work on the end-boss.

It is the best 1-handed weapon in terms of damage output, only is statistically inferior to the Berserker axe as a 2-handed weapon if,and but if, you have your 2-handed skill at 100%. If it is simply eighty% or so then I'd say that it is nonetheless the all-time weapon in the game (at max level, of course).

If y'all are a mage and so you do not go the sword but instead get access to some unique spell runes that you can exchange for one some other (yous tin can only have one at a time, merely tin can exchange them at the shrine). the final rune is the unmarried nigh powerful spell in the game but also drains a minimum of 250(+all remaining) mana, so there'south even a good run a risk you wont' have plenty mana to cast the fucking matter.

Otherwise they're "eh" spells -- table below:

Circumvolve: HP/Total HP: Spells: Circumvolve 1: -five/-5 HP Root Snare Circle two: -five/-x HP Steal Energy Circle 3: -5/-fifteen HP Beliar's Wrath, Create Guardian Circle iv: -five/-20 HP Insect Swarm, Create Zombie Circle five: -5/-25 HP Cry of the Dead Yous can only carry one Beliar Rune at a fourth dimension, and must pray at a Shrine of Beliar in order to substitution it for another one. It does not price any extra HP reduction to do and so.
  4. Hmm. Tempted to endeavour making a 1h character with the Claw of Beliar. Never actually used 1h weapons before.
Likewise, my last two play throughs were Paladin and Merc, and since Fire Mages don't get the weapon, I'm thinking of trying something different, like going guildless. We'll see how long I'll final with shittastic armor. Not that it'due south incommunicable.
  5. Well, y'all could technically clear the entire "new world" area (main Island) but you tin't really get to the Mining Colony or the Lost World areas without joining a gild.

I establish i-handed weapons are easier to use for their faster jump dorsum. With a 1-handed weapon when you step back/jump back you immediately are free to block/attack/movement/anything -- with a 2-handed weapon you accept a slight carve up second delay which is the difference of a dragon snapper charging your guts or yous managing to striking information technology and drive it dorsum. I could hands (and with a lot of time) impale an Orc or Dragon Snapper before joining a guild with something like a Wolf'due south Tooth, but with a two-hander it's most probable I'll get fucked up every time.

For archers i-handed weapons are pretty much the preferred route, in no small-scale part due to the availability of dex based swords and finally the claw. It simply makes sense to dump twenty or then LP and enhance your skill with the tablets/NPCs subsequently.

  6. From what I understood y'all could complete the game without joining a Society. And that prior to NotR the Crawler Plate armor was the best armor you lot could become if y'all were guildless.
  7. Hrm? Is there some work-around to getting the key from Lord Hagen?

Or is there some weird way to "bound" over the mountain pass by abusing the angles of the mountainside near the pass? And... err... nigh the portal with the water-mages, doesn't Vatras require you to "deliver" your letter to Hagen before he volition let yous into the Ring of H2o? Or is that non necessary to really put the key together and activate the portal?

  8. It'south been a while when I heard something almost information technology, and that was very briefly because I wasn't really interested at the fourth dimension, but I think it did have something to practise with jumping, mountains and angles.

Fake edit: You can get into the Valley of Mines as early as the offset chapter by scaling mountains. I'm not certain if you can actually get into Jharkendar then, though.

  9. I read well-nigh, and fifty-fifty watched a youtube video, of how to scale the mountains merely supposedly you couldn't really get "through" the tunnel that actually transitions you lot to it.

I plant this video (terrible music) http://www.youtube.com/lookout man?5=xHuFl64Jdi8 that also shows how to go to the area but not the actual 'transition'.

    Kinda curious now

  10. You can bypass virtually all of it. I'm pretty certain (merely not certain) you lot could cull to keep beliar claw if you were a mage.
  11. You tin can, its merely that when you pray it is non a sword -- but the rune(s).
  12. You can definitely get through to the VOM; I 've done it twice to get XP and loot. You lot still demand to bring together a club though because you lot can't trigger the first of Ch3 without the quest from Lord Hagen. Also, you can't go to the add-on area without the quest from Vatras which besides requires a lodge.
  13. In vanillia G2 you can get equally far as Ch.3, still guildless. If yous manage to pass Hagen's guards, he'll talk to yous. In NotR, however, he'll tell you that you don't have enough feel.
And even during vanilla G2 you hitting a wall when you demand Xardas to assistance you to repair the Eye. If you are still guildless, he'll tell that you lack strength (whatever your actuall strength is) and turn down to talk almost the subiect.
  14. Interesting. I love it when game's allow for such unplanned events and can even so function without breaking.

Gothic 2 all the same the best RPG.
  16. How do the Mercenary and Paladin paths differ aside from the ease of entry into the Paladins? I've never managed to get far into Chapter 2 on my previous plays, how does the gainsay for each differ? I'm leaning towards 2h weapons with a bow as backup (master weapon in the beginning).
  17. Dissimilar faction quests. It's an aesthetic/story selection, if annihilation.

The gainsay doesn't differ at all - 1h five. 2h, bow v. crossbow path is open regardless of which faction y'all join, armor values are nearly the same (slightly meliorate for Mercs IIRC) etc.

BTW what are you waiting for, G2 : NotR is a classic game - go play it!

    • Brofist Brofist 10 1
  18. Merc's go access to the Ore Dragon Slayer weapons which are slightly more powerful than the Paladin exclusive weapons. I don't remember for sure, but Paladins accept slightly better armor. At least it looks pretty good. The Dragon Hunter armor looks like goat vomit.

Merc'due south accept to sacrifice some LP's and a shitton of gold to get their armor and weapon, Paladin'due south go their armor for free from a chest.

    • Brofist Brofist x one
  19. Well, not actually.

Dragon Slicer > Ore Dragon Slayer, and you can get it at whatever phase in the game, fifty-fifty Chapter 2, as long as you lot have enough STR (150? can't really remember exact number) and are able to beat the tomb guardians. Just Berserker Axe / 2H maxed out "souldrinker" weapon beats it in terms of damage. Basically every bit Merc/Paladin you can invest 0 points into crafting and even so take great weapons. (and you can fifty-fifty find the best crafting weapons with some pickpocketing/exploring, AFAIR)

Merc's dragonslayer armor you lot get with minimal xp investment, I call up information technology's like 3LP to collect dragon scales, and some 20k gold, but by that point in the game you'll be swimming in gold and have absolutely nothing else to do with it anyway.

1H Ore Dragon Slayer is the best 1H weapon though and the 2H one has the highest reach (140 compared to 120 for the Dragon Slicer and ninety for the Berserker Axe). Of course Beliars Claw is besides at that place and contending for the top spot.
  21. In the finish information technology'south mostly aesthetics with a slight quest variation in the last acts. Nothing major. As far as the 'best swords' contend... I'd like to meet someone who can actually impale the NoTR iteration of the dragons in melee without using the summoned skeletons/demons, etc.
  22. You should play G2 without NoTR and information technology volition exist much better game.
    • Agree Concur ten one
  23. Pfft, black ore is haxxing, besides.
  24. It's piece of cake, bold you powergame (i.e. impale about everything every chapter, don't waste XP points, etc.). During my last playthrough the toughest dragon died in five melee hits, the weaker ones in 4. (was using Dragon Slicer, STR value 160 or smth IIRC).
